Sodium selenite supplementation does not reduce the effectiveness of X-ray irradiation treatment on human cancerous esophageal TE-8 cells

چکیده

Sodium selenite supplementation at a concentration 50 nM before X-ray irradiation was suggested to protect non-cancerous human esophageal CHEK-1 cells from irradiation-induced damage. This present study investigated those effects on cancerous cell line. The cancer line, TE-8, cultured and supplemented for the cytotoxicity assay, GPx-1 activity, viability clonogenic assay western blot analysis. An apoptosis biomarker, Cleaved PARP, used. results show that survival post-irradiation of supplemented-cells had same effect as treated by only, tended decrease (p=0.27), rate (p=1.00). cleaved PARP level higher in supplemented-and irradiated- than with alone. These suggest sodium prior does not reduce effectiveness treatment cells.

Protective effects of sodium selenite supplementation against irradiation-induced damage in non-cancerous human esophageal cells.

The administration of radioprotective compounds is one approach to preventing radiation damage in non-cancerous tissues. Therefore, radioprotective compounds are crucial in clinical radiotherapy. Selenium is a radioprotective compound that has been used in previous clinical studies of radiotherapy. However, evidence regarding the effectiveness of selenium in radiotherapy and the mechanisms unde...

The administration of radioprotective compounds is one approach to prevent radiation damage in normal tissues. Thus, radioprotective compounds are important in clinical radiotherapy. Selenium is one radioprotective compounds that has been widely used in clinical studies of radiotherapy. However, evidence regarding the effectiveness of selenium use in radiotherapy and the mechanisms through whic...

Sodium selenite supplementation does not fully restore oxidative stress-induced deiodinase dysfunction: Implications for the nonthyroidal illness syndrome

UNLABELLED Nonthyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) is marked by low T3 and high reverse T3 levels. The physiopathology is poorly understood but involves oxidative stress-induced disruption of the iodothyronine deiodinases, which activate or inactivate thyroid hormones. Selenium, an essential trace element, exerts antioxidant function mainly through the thioredoxin reductase (TRx) and glutathione p...
